DOME and Cloud Data Engine Announce Strategic Collaboration to Power a Decentralised and Trustworthy European Data Marketplace

Jan 27, 2026 | Press Release

Brussels, 27 January 2026. The  Distributed Open Marketplace for Europe (DOME)  and Cloud Data Engine (CDE) are proud to announce that CDE has officially joined the DOME consortium. This integration, effective as of 1 January 2026, follows a formal project extension funded by the European Commission.

Beyond the initial grant phase, this structural collaboration is designed for long-term impact: CDE will support DOME’s ongoing operations within the framework of the DOME Foundation currently being established to oversee the marketplace’s future governance.

Industrialising Compliance for European Sovereignty

As part of this extension, CDE takes the lead on industrialising compliance within the DOME ecosystem. Leveraging its CDE Manager software suite, CDE provides Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) with the tools to automate and scale complex regulatory requirements.

The integration of CDE Manager into DOME will enable CSPs to:

  • Generate and implement verifiable credentials seamlessly.
  • Manage import of Gaia-X credentials and labels to bind the DOME compliance criteria automatically
  • Ensure cross-catalogue integration: Services listed in the CISPE catalogue can be integrated into DOME and vice-versa, ensuring maximum visibility and interoperability across the European market.

A Robust Governance for the European Cloud

DOME was launched as a strategic European initiative to create a digital infrastructure that empowers public authorities, businesses, and citizens to share and consume data in full compliance with EU regulations, including the Data Act and the AI Act.

Cloud Data Engine, co-founded by the architects of Gaia-X, CISPE, and EuroCloud, already serves as the official operator of the CISPE Catalogue. By joining DOME as the reference compliance monitoring partner, CDE reinforces the trust chain across the ecosystem. This ensures that all listed services strictly adhere to governance rules, including operational and registration requirements within the European Economic Area (EEA).

This expertise has already delivered proven results on the European stage. During the Gaia-X Summit in Porto in November 2025, CDE enabled the showcase of the very first cloud services to achieve Gaia-X Level 3 compliance marks, a landmark milestone that demonstrated CDE’s unique ability to turn complex frameworks into operational reality.

Giuseppe Cafiso, DOME Project Coordinator stated: “The inclusion of Cloud Data Engine in the DOME consortium significantly bolsters our operational capacity. This collaboration extends far beyond the European funding period; it lays the groundwork for our future independent foundation. CDE’s expertise in credential automation is the missing piece to make DOME the definitive, interoperable, and sovereign marketplace for Europe.

Alban Schmutz, CEO of Cloud Data Engine, added: “Our formal entry into the DOME project on 1 January 2026 marks a turning point for the European digital economy. With CDE Manager, we are turning compliance from a complex burden into an industrial accelerator. By bridging the Gaia-X, CISPE, and DOME ecosystems, we are building the scalable, trustworthy infrastructure required for true European digital sovereignty.
